Platinum, Gold and Silver
It’s safe to swim with a ring made of gold, platinum, or silver. These metals will not be affected by salt or chlorine.
It is important to remember that gold can easily be scratched. Tarnishing can also occur in silver and platinum. If you plan to swim with your rings, be sure to remove them before you leave the ocean or pool.
Stainless Steel and Titanium, Tungsten
It’s safe to swim with a ring made of stainless steel, titanium or tungsten. These metals will not be affected by salt or chlorine. They can be scratched easier than gold, silver or platinum.
Gemstones
Before you go swimming with your ring, make sure to have it checked by a jeweler if it is made from gemstones. Some gemstones such as pearls or opals are sensitive to chemicals, and may be damaged by salt water or chlorine.

Salt Water and Chlorinated Water
